Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolis changes its name

Pokhara – The Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City has dropped ‘Lekhnath’ from its name. A notice informing the removal of Lekhnath was published through the gazette on Monday.

With this, the name of the metropolis has changed into Pokhara only.
Secretary at Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration Dinesh Thapaliya informed that the change in the name of metropolis was made as per the clause 4(3) of Local Government Operation Act-2074 BS.

The provision of the Act has allowed the two-third majority of the municipal assembly to send proposal for changing name or centre of the rural municipality and municipality to federal government through the province government.

It may be noted that the municipal assembly held on June 26 had unanimously decided to drop ‘Lekhnath’ from the name of Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolis. With the recommendation of the province government, the federal government had taken the decision to that effect on August 8.

Masses still have no access to judiciary, says former CJ

Damak –Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has said Nepal’s judiciary is still out of access of the common people.

Taking part in an interaction programme on ‘access of common people to justice’ here today, the former chief judge of the Supreme Court insisted on the need of a significant change in service delivery in the judicial system. “A limited number of people have access to the judiciary” she said at the programme organised by Youth Network Damak.

She went on to say that masses lacked knowledge regarding process for justice and land mafia and middle persons could have their influence on the judiciary, speaking of the need of further reforms there.

Sapling plantation from Chief Minister

Hetauda – Chief Minister of Province No. 3 Dormani Poudel and Province’s Internal Affairs and Law Minister Shalikram Jamarkattel have marked the beginning of sapling plantation in open areas of Hetauda Cement Factory meant for conservation of nature and control increased environmental pollution.

The Chief Minister, Province Minister, locals, politicians and government officials planted as high as 400 saplings of different fruits in the site of the factor at Lamsure, Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-9 on Wednesday.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Poudel said that support of all was needed for environment conservation since lone effort of the government was not enough to this end.

Likewise, the team made an onsite visit to Bhimphedi Prison House and took stock of physical infrastructure, condition of inmates, medical treatment to the needy inmates, provision of foods and security of the prison house.

After the visit, Jamarkattel shared that the Bhimphedi Prison House is being transformed into a province jail.

HoR meeting obstructed

Kathmandu – The Nepali Congress has obstructed today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), demanding answer to the three questions posed to the government.

Soon after the beginning of the meeting, the major opposition, NC, obstructed the meeting demanding the answer after drawing government’s attention over the issues including action against the murderer(s) of Nirmala Panta of Kanchhanpur district and Nepal Tarun Dal, Rolpa Town President, Rohit Pun.

Similarly, the NC also drew government’s attention to release the editor of Khoj Talas Weekly, Raju Basnet.
Lawmaker Dilendra Badu on the onset of the meeting demanded to identify the murderer(s) of Panta and Pun as well as asked the government ‘On what basis editor Basnet was arrested?’

Badu insisted that they would obstruct the meeting until the government responses to their queries. During the protest, the NC lawmakers had stood from their respective seats.

On the occasion, Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara drew government’s attention over the issues raised by lawmaker Badal in the meeting.

The meeting was put-off for 10 minutes due to NC lawmakers’ obstruction.
