Narayangarh-Muglin road section disrupted

Chitwan – Traffic operation has been disrupted along the Narayangarh-Muglin road section since early this morning. The vehicular movement has come to a halt after landslides occurred in three different parts of the road stretch. The District Police Office confirmed that the landslide took place in Kalikhola, Jalbire and Charkilo of Ichhakamana rural municipality-6. Police further informed that the torrential rain has troubled in removing landslide debris from the road. Passengers have been in trouble with traffic disruption.

Locals to get shares of solar energy

Damauli – Local people will also get shares of solar energy plant to be established at Shuklaphanta municipality-5, Belchautari of Tanahun. In order to secure local people’s ownership to the plant, the Solar Firm Pvt Ltd is making necessary preparation to allot shares of Rs 200 million to locals. Company Manager Til Bahadur Ale shared local people as well as Non-Resident Nepali will also have shares of the company. He informed that the shares amounting to Rs 200 million will be allotted for NRNs while Rs 100 million for the founders. The project with 5-MW capacity will have an estimated investment of Rs 500 million. Ale further informed that the project will annually generate nine million units electricity. The company has already signed an power purchase agreement with the Nepal Electricity Authority. Company Administrator Hari Kumar Shrestha said the project has the plan to generate power within mid September next year. The electricity generated from the solar plant will be linked to the national transmission line through the grid system. According to the Company, NEA will purchase per unit solar electricity at Rs 7.30 for 25 years.

Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolis changes its name

Pokhara – The Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City has dropped ‘Lekhnath’ from its name. A notice informing the removal of Lekhnath was published through the gazette on Monday. With this, the name of the metropolis has changed into Pokhara only. Secretary at Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration Dinesh Thapaliya informed that the change in the name of metropolis was made as per the clause 4(3) of Local Government Operation Act-2074 BS. The provision of the Act has allowed the two-third majority of the municipal assembly to send proposal for changing name or centre of the rural municipality and municipality to federal government through the province government. It may be noted that the municipal assembly held on June 26 had unanimously decided to drop ‘Lekhnath’ from the name of Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolis. With the recommendation of the province government, the federal government had taken the decision to that effect on August 8.

Masses still have no access to judiciary, says former CJ

Damak –Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has said Nepal’s judiciary is still out of access of the common people. Taking part in an interaction programme on ‘access of common people to justice’ here today, the former chief judge of the Supreme Court insisted on the need of a significant change in service delivery in the judicial system. “A limited number of people have access to the judiciary” she said at the programme organised by Youth Network Damak. She went on to say that masses lacked knowledge regarding process for justice and land mafia and middle persons could have their influence on the judiciary, speaking of the need of further reforms there.
